Tour Description:

On your jungle river adventure down the scenic Sittee River you will encounter gentle rapids.

We begin our trip by gliding through the remains of a colonial bridge, constructed over forty years ago when Belize was still a British colony and the "highway" was nothing more than a horse track through the wilderness.  From there on, it's back to the wild.

Your licensed guide will point out birds and animals and plants to get you acquainted with the area. Watch out for Iguanas and Belize's national bird - the Toucan or, as the locals say, Boat-bill, which nests in the high trees along the river bank, as well as Bromeliads and Orchids.  On the river you are almost guaranteed to see Kingfishers - we have three. Then, there are the so called Gray birds - the Swallows, Swifts, Ducks and Cormorant. There are a multitude of song birds, the Herons and then there are the Jacanas and the Anhinga or snake bird - it's named for its habit of swimming with just its head and long neck sticking out of the water.  Don't forget to keep an eye on the sky - up above we can see multicolored parrots winging their way to their feeding areas and also Vultures - possibly better known as Buzzards. Not a very beautiful bird but hey - they keep things clean!

At the end of your adventure enjoy a delicious lunch before heading back.

What to Bring:  Camera, binoculars, aqua shoes or sandals, sunscreen, insect repellent and a change of clothes..
